Strategy Institute’s Chicago event this week

If I have more luck in airplanes this week than last (four hours on the slushy tarmac, and THEN they cancel the flight to Vancouver!!!), I will be at the Strategy Institute’s latest event – this one hanging on the reasonable notion of Building Your Successful Digital Signage Business.

I can only stick around for Day 1, but there are a couple of promising sessions I will scribble notes about and report back at some point:

Accelerating the Media Buy: What Are Media Planners and Advertisers Looking For?

Matt Weisberger, Chief Digital Officer, MediaCom
David Krupp, Managing Director, Kinetic Worldwide
Heather Armstrong, Director of Out-of-Home Media, GSD&M
Amy Maguire, VP, Group Account Director, MPG

and then …

Metric-Mania: The Latest Research in Measuring Digital Out-of-Home Media and Pricing Effectiveness

Bill Cook, Senior VP, Research and Standards, Advertising Research Foundation
Robert Winston, Senior Accounts Manager, Arbitron Out-of-Home

There are also, unfortunately, a few panels that are loaded up with event sponsors and will devolve, probably immediately , into product pitches. For example, Selecting and Switching Your Software: Know the Top Companies Driving Excellence in How Digital Signage Networks Operate is three sales guys and one CTO.

Maybe this time will be different, but if I dropped many $100s to attend an event, I want useful information from industry experts, not pitches from people who obviously (and understandably) have an agenda to push.

Then again, this sort of stuff gives me more time to network and hang out in the hallway.
